So Grizzly Bear are coming – (Wednesday 21st Nov at the Bruce Mason Centre (Bruce Mason? what a shame))
Now we all know that Yellow House is a masterstroke blend of the harmonious and the eclectic, but what I didn’t know until the first listen, was that follow up Veckatimest (spelt how it sounds) is just as good. In fact, it’s a further resolved, evolution of their sound – like an unobnoxious Animal Collective, and a non-narcoleptic Fleet Foxes.
Where Yellow House had it’s desert islands to come up for air on in Knife and On a Neck, On a Spit, the oceans between the likes of Two Weeks, Cheerleader or Ready, Able don’t seem so deep or wide on Veckatimest – comparable maybe to the contrast in accessibility between Deerhunter‘s Microcastle and Halcyon Digest.
Their newest album Sheilds came out just the other day, so watch this space, or fill it for me…
